The throw triple salchow is a staple in pairs long programs today, and was first successfully completed in competition by Tai and Randy. But they are better known for their 1979 World title, the past won by an American pair, than their technical achievements. The pair is well-known for their withdrawal from the 1980 Olympics after Randy pulled a groin muscle. Following the Olympic disappointment, they skated professionally for nearly two decades. Tai now has a son and Randy has done choreography for the Champions On Ice tour.
