Target Partnership

photo © Target In 1997, Katia became a spokeswoman for Target stores, a chain of retail stores similar to Wal-Mart in the United States. Since the partnership was formed, Katia has appeared in television specials associated with Target, was the inspiration for a doll, appeared on the cover of Target's magazine, and had her own beauty line of two fragrances. Target stopped making the beauty lines around 2001.

Timeline

July 17, 1997

Katia's partnership with Target is announced.

November 28, 1997

Snowden On Ice starring Katia, Scott Hamilton, Kurt Browning, Josée Chouinard, and Daria aired on the CBS network during the holiday season in 1997. This family skating musical was also available for sale at some Target stores.

December, 1997

Around Christmastime, Target sold two Katia dolls by Playmates. One had a white dress and the other wore dark green velvet. The dolls were limited editions with only about 10,000 dolls made in each dress.

December 14, 1997

While she is in town for the World Pro Championships, Katia holds an autograph session at the Germantown, MD Target store

February 4, 1998

"My Sergei" is aired on CBS. The video was sold at Target stores and included short commercials for the Katia fragrance and A Letter for Daria. - images

March 30, 1998

The 'Katia' fragrance line is unveiled and Katia speaks at a celebration breakfast in Minneapolis, homebase for Target and the site of the 1998 World Championships during that week.

The 'Katia Sport' commercial is filmed in Miami, Florida.

November 27, 1998

The second television special presented by Target, The Snowden, Raggedy Ann and Andy Holiday Show, is aired. The show featurs skaters from the original Snowden including Katia, Scott Hamilton, Josée Chouinard, and Kurt Browning.

April 5, 1999

Target announces it will be the title sponsor for the 1999/2000 Stars On Ice tour.

The grand opening of Target House and Sergei's Garden takes place. Katia and other celebrities contributing to Target House including Scott Hamilton, Amy Grant, and Tiger Woods speak at the ceremony.

June 7, 1999

At the 27th Annual Fragrance Foundation "FiFi" Awards at Lincoln Center in New York City, Katia presents an award and her own fragrance is nominated in the "bath and body line" category, placing third.

2000-2002

Target was the title sponsor for the Stars On Ice tour.

2000 Target House Calendar

This free calendar at Target stores featured a different room of Target House for each month and the Sergei Grinkov Memorial Garden is May's feature. There is a small photo of the garden with the quote, "My favorite place at Target House is the Sergei Grinkov Garden - the flowers small awesome," by Amber, Taos, New Mexico.

2000 Stars On Ice calendar

These three photos of Katia are scanned from the 2000 SOI calendar exclusively found at Target. The large mid-air photo is the main photo for September with the smaller "tree photo" below it. The tree photo appears again with the Four Corners photo in a collage for June.
