1998 World Championships - ABC profile
ABC (Brent Musburger): The lived an earlier drama: the woman who
nearly died on the ice and the man who helped her skate again. At the 1998
European Championships, they wrote a different tale: a story of victory.
Anton: It's very important for us because it's one of the greatest
wins in my life.
ABC: Along with a place atop the European podium came Olympian expectations
and self-doubt.
Anton: Everybody asked, "OK, guys. You must win. How are you?" (Elena
laughs and says, "You must win."). And I said, "Yes, we must but maybe no."
And you know, it's really, really hard.
ABC: Their Olympic experience was not equal to the expectations.
Their rise had been meteoric hiding the fact that this is still a young
pair.
Tamara: They will have to learn the experience. Competing, falling
down, going up, and acquiring this experience that will make them great.
ABC: Greatness is not only something others expect from them, it
is something they now expect of themselves.
Anton: And on the next Olympics, now I know how I can feel on the
Olympics and nobody can touch me (Elena laughs) - nobody.
